Heather Simmons
Heather Simmons
A big part of the workday for Heather Simmons, senior human resource generalist at National Cart Company in St. Charles, Mo., is to recruit talent for her company.
"Our vice president of operations came to me and stated he was on the plant floor watching our welders," Heather said. "He pointed out some of our best welders and asked that I get in contact with the school they attended and become their best friend."
After investigating, she found that those National Cart employees received their education at St. Charles Community College.
"Many students best resource and skill set is not sitting behind a desk all day, but using their hands to build and make things. SCC's Welding Program has given many students the opportunity to learn skills that help them obtain a strong, long-term career."
Thanks to various welding pathways at SCC, students can take non-credit classes or earn anything from an American Welding Society Certificate to an Associate of Applied Science in Welding.
"As National Cart Company continues to grow, we will need to add more skilled welders to our team. Welders are in high demand in St. Charles County and the best way to prepare for the growth and demand is to continue offering the benefit of education."
