Event Title: Attend Current On-Campus Event or St. Louis Event
Guidelines for accomplishment of Event:
Compose a minimum 4-5 page summary of the event you experienced, with a research component. (minimum 3 sources, an interview with the presenter is a source)
Keep in mind the competencies identified with the help of your Capstone facilitator as you make an account of your experiences.
When you attend, be alert to the thesis/ focus of the presentation, particularly as it relates to what the presenter is offering about the quality, depth or function of the topic, and how the thesis is supported ( i.e. evidence, examples). Take notes during the event and feel free to ask the presenter to clarify his or her thesis.
In your first paragraph, summarize the event, the focus or topic and then formulate a clear, concise thesis statement that includes three basic points from the ideas below.
Find an article that supports the presenter’s position, or find a universal theme, dilemma or viewpoint that could attract any audience and articulate an informed position on it. Find an article that supports your position and incorporate it into your paper. (Works cited page necessary)
What most impressed you that perhaps changed a previous attitude or belief? Put the event in a historical perspective or a cultural perspective and determine why/ how this presentation has value today in our society. Also, try to determine who is affected in our society by this topic; i.e. race, gender, socio-economic status, etc. If necessary, do some research to support your informed response. (Works cited page necessary)
Your paper must have evidence of the competencies listed in your syllabus. Not every single competency must be evident, but at least one from either humanities, social sciences or multicultural/valuing should be thoroughly addressed. Then make sure that you have fulfilled the higher order thinking and managing information sufficiently.
