7 ways we help students
Published: 08/28/2018
Welcome to the fall semester! The first steps into the new semester and into college are an exciting and challenging time for students.
From helping students to enroll, to teaching courses, to offering career help, to funding scholarships and more, thank you for supporting our students and helping them to be successful.
There are lots more than seven ways; however, we hope you enjoy this list and we look forward to another great semester here at SCC.
- A variety of scheduling options are available for many kinds of students. In addition to day, evening, online and hybrid semester classes, SCC also offers Fall Late-Start & Second 8-week classes that start in September and October (including accounting, biology, business, criminal justice, English as a Second Language, math, political science and more).
- SCC offers associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields.
- Career Services staff are available to help students link majors with potential career paths, explore career options, search for jobs and more. They also offer a number of events and services, like one-on-one career counseling.
- Academic Advisors are available to help students create a personal roadmap to success. They can help figure how to hit goals, whether transferring, starting a new career, looking for a certification or determining where to start.
- Free tutoring and computer use is available at the ACE Tutoring Center, a learning center dedicated to helping students through free tutoring and study skills guidance. The largest campus computer lab is available there for papers, projects and presentations, along with a Mac computer lab for multimedia projects.
- Scholarships and financial aid resources are available and can sometimes make the difference on whether a student is able to attend college.
- Continuing education and lifelong learning options are available for those who may not be looking for a degree, but are seeking non-credit professional development and personal enrichment.
In addition to the seven mentioned here, SCC has faculty who are devoted to teaching and learning and staff who are ready to help and to enjoy student life outside of classes. There also is a community of alumni and friends who participate in events and invest in scholarships and academic/program enhancements to help ensure students have access to a high quality education.
