Occupational Outlook

Because of the multitude of careers in this field, the outlook is varied. Positions that have a bright outlook include professor, interpreter, translator, anti-terrorism intelligence agent, clergy member, customer service representative, customs inspector, historian, social worker and social and human service assistant. These positions are projected to experience rapid increases in employment with large numbers of job openings over the next several years or are new and emerging occupations in high-growth industries.

SCC graduates with a Foreign Language Transfer Program (Arabic, French, German, Spanish) A.A. degree are employed in a broad range of careers including, but not limited to: professor, interpreter, translator, tour guide, writer, missionary worker, anti-terrorism intelligence agent, clergy member, customer service representative, customs inspector, historian, social worker and social and human service assistant.

Per College policy Individual students may be required to take COL 101.

* Social and Behavioral Sciences: Complete one Civics Course (HIS 101, HIS 102 or POL 101) and a minimum of 6 additonal credits from at least 2 disciplines.

** Humanities and Fine Arts: Complete nine credit hours from at least 2 disciplines.

*** Natural Sciences: Complete a minimum of 7 credit hours from at least 2 disciplines, including one course with a lab component.

Check with transfer institution for foreign language requirement.  A Bachelor of Arts Degree may require 3 semesters of the same foreign language.  A Bachelor of Science does not usually require foreign language.
