SCC’s Exercise Science programs strive to facilitate healthful futures. Through specialized
training and hands-on experiences, students build their expertise in sports performance,
exercise physiology, sports psychology, and nutritional programming. Our graduates
are able promote optimal physical health by utilizing an individualized approach to
assess, educate, motivate, and train their clients.

SCC’s Exercise Science programs develop students’ ability to motivate individuals
to follow fitness regimens. Whether you’re interested in becoming a fitness instructor,
coach, or a physical therapist, you’ll learn to help individuals enhance their muscular
strength, flexibility, and cardiorespiratory fitness, and nutritional health.
Learning Outcomes
- Prepared for national certifying exams, including the American College of Sports Medicine
(ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the American Council
of Exercise (ACE), and the National Academy of Medicine (NASM).
- Qualified to design, plan, and implement exercise programs and fitness routines for
healthy individuals and those with medical clearance to exercise.
All Exercise Science programs are credit-based and eligible for transfer to four-year
institutions.
Associate of Applied Science in Exercise Science (AAS)
This degree program prepares students for employment in entry-level positions in personal
training within health and fitness clubs, wellness centers, and public and private
recreation facilities. This curriculum also provides good preparation for a four-year
bachelor program in related fields.
Certificate of Achievement - Personal Trainer (CA)
With foundational and advanced courses, this certificate program is designed to help
students earn entry-level personal trainer certifications and/or advance in their
current careers in the fitness industry.
