SCC Jazz Camp Educator Track

We are excited to offer an educator track with the opportunity to earn five professional development hours (pending district approval) by studying the teaching techniques of Jazz Improv with Dr. Christopher Azzara, Eastman School of Music. Chris has made his focus on the role of improvisation and creativity the center of his approach to being a musician, whether in jazz or classical styles.

Faculty will have the opportunity to observe Dr. Azzara work with all the SCC Jazz Camp students in two 75-minute sessions, followed by two 75-minute faculty sessions to discuss the specific pedagogical ideas that he uses in his groundbreaking teaching. One will get to see Chris teach, then engage in Q/A with him about how to incorporate this approach in their teaching.

The sessions will be on Wednesday, June 12 & Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 12:30 to 3:30.

You are also invited to stay after the sessions for a short concert by the SCC Jazz Camp Faculty each afternoon.
