SCC to celebrate Black History Month

St. Charles Community College will host a series of events in honor of Black History Month. The events include films, panels, a lunchtime musician, soul food and more. These events are sponsored by SCC’s Multicultural and Global Awareness Committee and the African American Faculty and Staff Association (AAFSA). All events are free and open to the public, unless stated otherwise.

Lunchtime Musician

Lunchtime musician Rudy Currence will play starting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in Scooter’s Place located in the Student Center.

Panel: Exploring Your Options: Why I Chose an HBCU

A panel discussing historically black colleges and universities will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in the Student Center, Room 205. 

Spoken Word Artist: Ashlee Haze

Ashlee Haze will perform starting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, on the Learning Resource Center’s (LRC) second floor – in The Stacks.

A Taste of Soul Food

Join us for soul food and a live performance by Pamoja Preparatory Academy from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Social Sciences Building (SSB) auditorium.

Tell Them We are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities film screening  

Tell Them We are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, in the SSB auditorium.

Panel: Divine Nine: Why I Joined a Black Fraternity/Sorority

A panel discussing black fraternities and sororities will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Student Center, Room 205.

Black Panther film screening

Black Panther will be screened at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at Marcus Theatres at Mid Rivers Mall. Students can pick up one free ticket (with student ID) at the ADM Welcome Desk Feb. 19-23.   

Book Club: Discussing “The Mothers” by Brit Bennet

Book Club will meet to discuss its February book “The Mothers” at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the LRC information commons.
