SCC to celebrate Women's History Month in March

Title IX: The Top Nine Ways It Impacts YOU

11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 4

This presentation will explore a history of the 40-year-old amendment, how it has impacted the lives of women and men, and what it means to us today. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities which receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that “No person in the United States stall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Lunchtime Trivia
Noon Wednesday, March 12
Students will partake in some fun women’s history trivia at Cougar Café.

“Tracy and Jess” Film
6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12
The documentary “Tracy and Jess” is about two women diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at early ages. The film focuses on the challenges and triumphs of Tracy, Jess and their families. The film showing will be followed up with a question and answer portion with filmmaker, Jim Dreyer, and dementia-sufferer and documentary star, Jess Dreyer.

Sex Around The World
11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26
Vicky Herbel, associate professor and program coordinator for sociology and anthropology, will present on the differences of gender and culture around the world.

Slam Poet: Katie Wirsing
1 p.m. Thursday, March 27
Slam poet Katie Wirsing has never been big on small talk or backward thinking. Never afraid of the difficult truths, Katie has toured her way to stages around the world. She will speak on issues related to women’s history.
