Center Stage Theatre to Present "A Little Night Music" July 24-29 at SCC

Published: 06/26/2012

The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, July 24-26, at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, July 27-28, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29. There will be a high school matinee performance at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 26.

“A Little Night Music,” based on Ingmar Bergman's film, “Smiles of a Summer Night,” is set in a weekend country house in early 20th-century Sweden. This sophisticated musical is about love in all its endless possibilities, including complicated and surprising "liaisons," long-simmering passions and unfulfilled regrets. Hailed as witty and wildly romantic, the story centers on the elegant actress, Desiree Armfeldt, and the spider's web of sensuality, intrigue and desire that surrounds her. Included in the lush score is Stephen Sondheim's famous song, “Send in the Clowns.” The show is intended for mature audiences.

The play will be directed and choreographed by Lynne Snyder, SCC adjunct instructor of theater. Also behind the scenes are musical director Gene Ditch, stage manager Allison Summers, assistant stage manager Stephanie Pabst, with set and lighting design by Jeff Roop, costume design by Lonna Wilke, and hair and makeup by Debbie Phillips.

Candice Coleman, of St. Charles, will play Madame Armfeldt as a guest artist. Coleman will be teaching a class at SCC this summer, and has previously lectured at the college, giving voice lessons to Acting I and II classes.

Additional cast members from St. Charles include: Britney Kelcher as Mrs. Nordstrum, Sean Simpson as Mr. Erlanson, Kara Foley as Mrs. Segstrom, Laura Modglin as Anne Egerman, Samantha Bonomo as Desiree Armfeldt, Tricia Wallace as Malla, the maid, and Jungtae Choi as Bertrand, the paige.
