SCC Students Honored for Work on Student Newspaper

In its second year of eligibility, the SCCougar more than doubled the number of awards won the previous year, with 12 SCCougar staff members receiving 21 awards for their work, and three students receiving first-place awards. 

The SCCougar publication earned second place for best Web page for the second year in a row, an honorable mention for multimedia and was third in the sweepstakes (most points from awards). 

SCC students received the following awards:

Joseph Grate of Hazelwood – third place for news photography

Miriam Hannibal of Dardenne Prairie – second place for news photography

Lucas Howland of Eolia – second place for nonpolitical cartoon

Sam Johnson of Wentzville – honorable mention for regular column

Evan Loveless of St. Charles – second place for editorial writing

Ben Nelson of Foley – third place for multimedia

Elaina O’Connell of Wentzville – first place for feature writing; honorable mentions for page one design and feature page

Jess Pisciotta of O’Fallon – second place for political cartoon

Missi Robbins of Dardenne Prairie – third place for feature writing; honorable mention for photo page

Melanie Thorne of O’Fallon – first place for editorial writing

Matthew Weitkamp of O’Fallon – first place and third place for nonpolitical cartoons, honorable mention in entertainment review

Brian Wilson of St. Peters – second place and two honorable mentions for sports column

The contest was for content produced in 2010. The SCCougar staff competed against several other two-year colleges in Missouri. Entries were judged by the Missouri Press Association.
