Engraved Bricks Support SCC Foundation Scholarship Fund

“Behind every name is a story,” said Edie Kirk, associate vice president for Foundation and alumni relations. “The names engraved on the bricks are submitted by alumni, parents, employees, community groups, and others. The bricks mark life milestones, such as graduation, and provide a means for people to leave their own mark here at the college.”
 
“Purchasing a paver brick for the circle is a great way for people to give back and help individuals in our community to achieve their educational goals,” said Kirk. “This is especially important right now, with so many students and families hurt by the downturn in the economy. Applications for financial support through Foundation scholarships doubled for the fall 2009 semester compared to the fall 2008 semester.”
 
Kirk said the SCC Foundation’s goal is to award a total of $75,000 in scholarships during the 2009-10 academic year. “More than $25,000 already was awarded to students for the fall 2009 semester, thanks to both businesses and individuals who have contributed in various ways to the SCC Foundation,” Kirk said. The Paver Brick Program is one of the programs to raise funds.

The Tribute Circle of paver bricks is located on the sidewalk outside the College Center and the Daniel J. Conoyer Social Sciences Buildings on the college’s campus in Cottleville.
