“Denise brings a great deal of experience with community colleges as both an administrator and as an instructor of theater arts,” said Michael Banks, SCC vice president for academic and student affairs. “Throughout her career, she has demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and student success and we are delighted that she has joined the college.”

King, of O’Fallon, Mo., is responsible for leadership of SCC’s Division of Arts and Humanities, which includes the English/Literature Department, and the Music, Theater, Art, Graphic Design, Philosophy, Foreign Language, Reading, and Speech-Communication programs.

“Community colleges are an excellent resource for the community,” said King. “I am looking forward to being a part of St. Charles Community College as it continues to grow and provide valuable programs to the community.”

Previously, from 2005 to 2009, King was the director of the San Juan Center for Skagit Valley College in Friday Harbor, Wash., near Seattle, where she was responsible for management and center operations. She was the dean of the social sciences and humanities division at Olympic College in Bremerton, Wash., from 2004 to 2005, and was an instructor of theater arts there from 1995 to 2004. She also has held part-time teaching positions at California State University-Stanislaus, Stanford University, and Foothill College. During her career, she has directed more than 200 theatrical productions at several colleges, universities, and community organizations and was very involved with the Northwest Drama Conference, serving as the group’s president from 2002-2004.

King earned her doctorate degree in drama and humanities from Stanford University and her Bachelor of Arts degrees in both music and theater studies from Emory University.
