SCC to Hold Open Auditions for "A Raisin in the Sun"

Published: 12/14/2009

“A Raisin in the Sun” shows the tragic impact of American history on a black family residing in Chicago in the 1950s.  The family receives an insurance check after the death of the father and faces many conflicts, as each member wants to spend the money his own version of the American Dream.

Director Hal Berry will hold open auditions at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, and at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 19, in the theater of the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building on the SCC campus in Cottleville.  Callbacks will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20.

Center Stage Theatre invites SCC students and community residents to audition.  There are roles available for three women, four men and one boy in addition to four extras (three male and one female).  One minute dramatic monologues are welcome, but not required.  A copy of the script is on reserve at the college’s library.

“A Raisin in the Sun” will be performed in the theater of the Fine Arts Building at 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, March 3-6, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7. There will be a high school matinee performance at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 4.
