Dosage Calculations (CDV 600)

Textbook – Calculating With Confidence, 6th Edition by Gray Morris

The Dosage Calculations class prepares students to take the Dosage Calculations test required as part of the admission criteria for the St. Charles Community College (SCC) nursing programs. The class is also an excellent review for nurses who wishes to refresh their calculation skills.

Students are expected to be proficient in basic math including addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, percentages and Roman numerals prior to beginning this course. Students will need a basic function calculator in class.

Subjects Covered Include

  • Systems of measurement including metric and apothecary.
  • Converting between the two systems is also covered.
  • Calculating drug dosages utilizing ratio-proportion, formula and dimensional analysis.
  • Calculation of oral and parenteral medications including reconstitution of powdered medications.
  • Pediatric dosage calculation.
  • Basic IV flow rates and infusion time for IV Therapy.

Registration is done at the Nursing & Allied Health Center (#1 Academy Place, Dardenne Prairie, MO 63368). Office hours are from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Hours may vary, please call to conform.

Fax Registration

Complete the Health Occupations registration form (download PDF form) and fax it to 636-922-8478. Once the registration is received and processed, the student will be notified to call the Cashiers Office to provide credit card payment information via phone.

This is a non-credit course. Tuition is due at time of registration and is non-refundable and non-transferable.
