St. Charles Community College named Top Workplace and Great College to Work For

Published: 09/19/2014

The Post-Dispatch’s Top Workplaces are determined based solely on employee feedback. The employee survey is conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement. WorkplaceDynamics conducts regional Top Workplaces programs with 40 major publishing partners across the United States.

“This award is noteworthy affirmation of the work environment at the college,” said Ron Chesbrough, Ph.D., SCC president. “SCC is fortunate to have dedicated and experienced faculty and staff who provide a quality education for our students and meet the needs of all those they serve.”

SCC’s highest rated factor was in the direction category, with results from a survey showing employees believe the college is going in the right direction, have confidence in the leadership of SCC and believe SCC operates by strong values and ethics. SCC was one of only 90 companies of all types and sizes selected as a Top Workplace in the St. Louis metropolitan region.

The Post-Dispatch published the complete list of Top Workplaces on June 29. For more information about the Top Workplaces lists and WorkplaceDynamics, visit topworkplaces.com and workplacedynamics.com.

In July, The Chronicle of Higher Education named SCC one of the best colleges in the nation to work for in its seventh annual report of The Academic Workplace, based on a survey of more than 43,000 employees at 278 colleges and universities.

In all, only 92 of the 278 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For®” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium and large institutions, with SCC included among the medium universities and colleges with 3,000 to 9,999 students.

SCC won honors this year in the category of Facilities, Workspaces, and Security. The results confirm that SCC facilities adequately meet needs, the appearance of the campus is pleasing, and the institution takes steps to provide a secure environment.

The Chronicle is considered the nation’s most important source of news about colleges and universities.

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.

St. Charles Community College is a public, comprehensive two-year community college with associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities. For more information, visit stchas.edu.
