Science Learning Specialist (part-time)

Hours: Flexible schedule working 15 hours/week Monday-Friday between 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Duties:

St. Charles Community College is an accredited, affordable, and accessible learning environment providing life-changing opportunities for personal growth and professional success. The College invites applications for a part-time Learning Specialist to provide professional educational assistance to students in need of supplemental instruction and guidance in the biological and physical sciences. Candidate must be able to work flexible day hours throughout the week.

  • Provide educational assistance to college students with a broad range of biological and physical sciences courses including but not limited to introductory to general biology, human biology, or anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology is especially important in the biological disciplines. Ability to tutor in college level physics would be a plus.
  • Present science topics one-on-one and in small workshops in the ACE Tutoring Center.
  • Diagnose problems areas and instruct students in study skills.
  • Respond to student requests for course supplementation and seek out resources to meet student needs.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biological or physical sciences preferred, a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in biology required.
  • Experience teaching science-related courses and working with diverse student population.
  • Knowledge of teaching strategies and methods, one-to-one communication skills.
  • Proficient working with small groups, and strong presentation skills.
  • Should be available to work flexible daytime hours throughout the week during the three college semesters.
