Catherine Murray hails from the Baltimore, Md., area where she achieved a bachelor's degree in vocal performance from Towson University. Upon graduation, she accepted the chance to sing with the Springfield Regional Opera company and Mid-America Singers professional choir both based in Springfield, Mo. Catherine later moved with her family to the St. Louis area where she sang with the St. Louis Chamber Choir, and was a featured soloist on three of their CDs. She has received her master's of music from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and is certified in vocal pedagogy, and as a MSHAA adjudicator. She is a full member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing). Catherine has sung in productions such as: Amahl and the Night Visitors (Amahl), Little Red Riding Hood (Little Red Riding Hood), Orpheus in the Underworld (Cupid), La Périchole (Guadalena), and participated in productions of La Bohème, La Traviata, Tosca, The Mikado, and a 15th Anniversary Gala starring opera great, Roberta Peters. She has served as a vocal music director for the Young People's Theatre with shows such as: A Christmas Carol, Where's My Mummy, The Sound of Music, Sleepy Hollow, The Wizard of Oz, The Secret Garden, A Pirate's Life for Me, Beauty and the Beast, You Ain't Nothin' But a Werewolf and Cats. She also served as vocal music director for the Alton Community Theater production of Into the Woods. She has worked for St. Charles Community College since 2000 through both the Music and Continuing Education departments. She currently teaches Music Appreciation, co-directs the SCC Opera Workshop and teaches private vocal lessons.
