Title: Music Technician
Office: FAB 114
Alan worked 10 years at McDonnell-Douglas Astronautics, and 4 more at McDonnell-Douglas Training Systems. A (budgetary) layoff forced Alan to change his career to that of a piano technician. He spent three-plus years at Ludwig-Aeolian Piano Exchange in Earth City and then passed the required three tests given by the Guild and became a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) in 1997. Over the course of some five years, Alan rebuilt more than 50 grand pianos for a local technician, and several more on his own. One nine-foot grand he rebuilt was the Mason & Hamlin for the Missouri State Capitol that gets used from time to time in the Capitol Rotunda. The pinblock, strings were replaced, and the damper system cleaned / regulated with new felts installed.
Alan has served as music tech at SCC since the position was created in the summer of 2006.
