St. Charles Community College’s Center Stage Theatre is holding open auditions for the upcoming production of “Next Year’s Man of Steel,” by David Belke.
Director Jeff David will hold open auditions at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, March 10-11, in the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building, Room 110, on the SCC campus in Cottleville. Center Stage Theatre invites SCC students and community residents to audition.
Callbacks will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12. The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, which is on reserve in the SCC library. Monologues are encouraged, but not required.
“Next Year’s Man of Steel” is set in 1940 when a struggling and opportunistic writer, Everett Gardner, is given the chance to make a mark in the still infant comic book industry. All he has to do is create a hero, which turns out to be more difficult than he expects. Everett learns that heroes can arise in the most unexpected places.
There are roles for three men and one woman.
The performances will be held in the theater of the Fine Arts Building Wednesday-Sunday, April 23-27. There will be a high school matinee at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24.
