Dear Faculty and Staff:

It is difficult to believe that the end of the semester has arrived. I hope that you will be able to join us for Commencement at 10 a.m. in the gymnasium. Our Commencement Speaker for this year is Commissioner Zora Mulligan. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the success of students and faculty.

Last week we celebrated the purchase of our Center for Healthy Living with a dedication ceremony. It was inspiring to see how many of our community members participated in the ceremony and tour of the building. Thank you to the faculty and staff who helped coordinate an amazing dedication ceremony. The new space will serve our community and college well.

I hope you all were able to enjoy our employee appreciation luau last week. A special thank you goes out to all the faculty and staff who worked hard to make the event a success. The food was wonderful, and the weather was just about perfect!

The annual Student Awards Banquet was held May 3. Congratulations to all the hard-working students who were honored at this year’s event. I look forward to seeing all the amazing things that come from this group in the future.

Who’s Who Diversity in Color released “Saluting Diversity in Higher Education” on May 3. I was honored to be recognized in the issue as a Higher Education Diversity Champion, along with other college and university CEOs. I’m proud of the work we do to continue moving toward an environment that fosters diversity and inclusion.

I had an opportunity to attend a retirement party for Professor Joyce Lindstrom, SCC math professor. The college is thankful for your extraordinary 30 years of service to our students and our college. I wish you a joyful retirement.
