Dear Faculty and Staff:
“Imagine what our real neighbors would be like if each of us offered, as a matter of course, just one kind word to another person.” - Fred Rogers
We are so fortunate to live in a great neighborhood called St. Charles Community College. Perhaps this Friday, Valentine’s Day, we could take a moment to spread joy by offering kind words or just sharing a smile to a colleague or a student.
I will look forward to seeing all our extraordinary staff at the All Staff Update set for 8:15 a.m. in the FAB Theatre. Following refreshments, the program will include college updates, introduction of new employees, and a panel discussion. Later that morning, at 11:30 a.m., please join me the Faculty and Staff Service Recognition Luncheon, honoring faculty, staff, and Board members who have reached a milestone year of service in 2019. The ceremony will be held in the College Center gym.
We continue to make progress with enrollment. As of last Friday, our spring enrollment was up approximately 1%. We hope to have the final Census numbers this week. As a reminder, we also gained an increase in enrollment for our summer and fall terms. SCC continues to be one of the only community colleges in Missouri with positive enrollment. My appreciation is extended to everyone who played a role in this achievement.
On Friday, the Board of Trustees and the President’s Cabinet took part in one of our annual Board Study Sessions. This session focused on a review of student data, a facilities update, and a discussion regarding the budget and the tuition and fee schedule for FY 21. It was good to obtain feedback and guidance from the Board on topics including facilities, budget, data and retention. We will be sharing information from the Study Session at the next President’s Council meeting.
Vice Presidents Galbierz and Leenhouts work with Board President Pam Cilek
and Board Treasurer Rose Mack on a brainstorming activity.
The college is excited to announce our new women’s soccer coach, local legend Daryl Doran, who brings a great deal of experience to SCC with his professional playing and coaching career. Daryl competed at the indoor soccer professional level for 23 years, spanning from 1982-2005 with one appearance in 2008. He has competed in 827 professional indoor soccer games which is the most ever in U.S. history. He also competed in 13 All-Star games. Throughout his career he competed on five different teams including the St. Louis Steamers, Los Angeles Lazers, St. Louis Storm, St. Louis Ambush and St. Louis Illusion. In addition to his playing career he was also a player-coach during that time with the old St. Louis Ambush from 1992-1999 and with the St. Louis Steamers from 2000-2005. He also had a stint managing and coaching the Ambush in 2013. Welcome, Daryl!
Best wishes for a wonderful week and Happy Valentine’s Day!
