Dear Faculty and Staff:
Tomorrow the country will celebrate Veterans Day. Originally known as Armistice Day, it was declared a legal holiday in May 1938 by a Congressional Act; in 1954 it was renamed Veterans Day. Most importantly, it reminds us to honor our military veterans who have served our country. Please take a moment to thank the veterans in your life and to reflect on their service and sacrifice. Our veterans will also be celebrated in the College’s social media platforms.
Continue to celebrate international culture this month by joining Chef Merissa Wenzara, SCC culinary arts program director, as she walks us through how to make exotic international foods from Taiwan, Morocco and Columbia – all beginning this Friday. Find the full virtual schedule organized by SCC’s English Language Culture Institute and the Global Student Network here.
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to share their creativity with a three- to seven-minute selection of original work at this fall’s second virtual SCC Coffeehouse from noon to 2 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 13. To register as an artist or to obtain the Zoom link for viewing, email Michael Kuelker, professor emeritus in English, at mkuelker@stchas.edu. The SCC Coffeehouse features poets, fiction and prose writers, as well as songwriters.
The 2020 United Way campaign is now underway, and because of the impact of COVID-19, the need in our community is the greatest it has ever been in our lifetime. Your gift would help to support the thousands of people who have lost their jobs and families
that are struggling to afford food, stay in their homes, and keep their utilities on. Thank you for supporting United Way and helping build a stronger community for all.
Have a great week,
Barbara
