Touch Base Tuesday 10-6-20

Dear Faculty and Staff:

tbt10.6.20The 24th annual Presidents Classic Golf Scramble was held last week at Old Hickory Golf Club and, preliminary figures indicate that the event raised $35,000. We are grateful for all of the golfers and many sponsors who recognize the importance of supporting our students through scholarships, as well as academic and program enhancements for the College. Congratulations to Betsy Schneider, Executive Director of the SCC Foundation and Special Assistant to the President, as well as her team – Peggy Schnardthorst and Jessica McLaughlin – who helped to make the event a success.

Faculty, we would appreciate your support in alerting students that the Student Life Department and Mental Health Office is offering a series of virtual presentations to support Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week. This important programming is part of Student Life’s weekly “Community Resource Spotlight” that provides information to students and faculty/staff on many of the services available in our area.

On September 30, our very own Merissa Wenzara, who currently oversees SCC’s new culinary program, was highlighted on station KSDK. Great job, Merissa! Here’s a link to the program. Congratulations to Head Coach Jacob Sundberg and the SCC Men’s Cross Country team who were recently 5th in the 2020 NJCAA DIII Men’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Ranking. Check out their schedule here.

A quick and important reminder – The St. Charles County Department of Public Health is joining with SCC to distribute 800 flu vaccinations during a free, drive-through clinic from noon to 7 p.m tomorrow in the SCC Yellow Parking Lot. No appointment is required.

Finally – faculty, I wish for you a restful Fall Break next week. Staff, I look forward to sharing the Fall College Update with you from 9 a.m.-noon on Tuesday, Oct. 13 (check the Portal for Zoom details).

Have a great week,
