Dear Faculty and Staff:
At the Board meeting last night, the Trustees approved moving forward with the purchase of 25 acres in western St. Charles County for the college’s new Regional Workforce and Technical Center. As a reminder, we have allocated $10 million from the bond funds to complete this project. The Board also approved contracts for beginning construction work on the new science labs and the remodel of the Administration building for Student Services. Finally, the trustees approved the purchase of additional AV carts for classrooms.
On October 14th, we hosted an All-Staff meeting. During the morning session, Vice President Galbierz provided a college update. Following this, the staff broke into small group breakout sessions that focused on the upcoming HLC visit, diversity initiatives, and service excellence.
Wednesday, October 20th, the Multicultural Student Engagement Office hosted the Latin Festival. Students were entertained by Folklorico Dancers and an international band and were served authentic tacos for lunch. Thanks to Martha Kampen, Chris Cross, and everyone who contributed to a successful event.
SCC hosted its first annual Men of Color (MOC) Mentor Dinner on October 19 at Old Hickory Country Club. At this event, our community mentors had an opportunity to be recognized for their service and to meet and interact with our current MOC cohort. Thanks to Vice President Leenhouts, Chris Cross, James Bratcher, and Martha Kampen for their good assistance organizing such a wonderful event.
Please mark your calendars to attend one of two Listening Tour sessions I have scheduled for all employees. This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions or share any feedback you have about the college. The first session is scheduled for November 3 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Center for Healthy Living – Library. The second session will be November 4 during the same time in SSB 1102.
Best wishes and Happy Halloween!
Barbara
