The safety and security of our campus community remain our highest priority. We are writing to inform you of a cybersecurity incident involving Instructure, the company that powers Canvas, our learning management system, that occurred on April 25, 2026.

St. Charles Community College was notified of this cybersecurity breach by Instructure and was identified as one of the approximately 9,000 impacted colleges globally. Instructure indicated data breached may include names, email addresses, and student ID numbers, as well as messages among Canvas users. At this time, Instructure is conducting a thorough forensics investigation and has found no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were involved.

As always, please use caution and remain alert to any unsolicited emails, specifically from Canvas, asking for your login or password credentials. If you receive any unusual requests, please avoid clicking on any links and forward them to InformationSecurity@stchas.edu.

We are committed to protecting your and your students’ personal information and credentials. We apologize for any inconvenience and will continue to provide timely updates as the situation evolves. Updates can also be viewed directly from Instructure by navigating to https://status.instructure.com.
