Black History Month has been celebrated annually in February since 1976 and celebrates African American
achievements and recognizes the central role of African Americans in United States History. The St. Charles
Community College’s African American Faculty & Staff Association (AAFSA), the SCC Library (LRC), and the Office of Student Life
wants to recognize Black History Month and will be holding several themed events Feb. 6 - 28.
Professor Marvin Tobias’ lecture will examine the history of Hip-Hop in relation to political issues and African American life. The lecture will focus on the popular artists of the past and present while delving into their messages and how they have impacted policy and in some ways the voting patterns of a generation.
