Black History Month has been celebrated annually in February since 1976 and celebrates African American
achievements and recognizes the central role of African Americans in United States History. The St. Charles
Community College’s African American Faculty & Staff Association (AAFSA), the SCC Library (LRC), and the Office of Student Life
wants to recognize Black History Month and will be holding several themed events Feb. 6 - 28.
In this four-part series, Henry Louis Gates, Jr. embarks on a deeply personal journey through the last fifty years of African American history. Joined by leading scholars, celebrities, and a dynamic cast of people who shaped these years, Gates travels from the victories of the civil rights movement up to today, asking profound questions about the state of black America—and our nation as a whole. At the end of the showing, a moderated discussion will take place. Parts one and two of the series will be show on this day. Part 1 starts at 11:30 a.m. and Part 2 starts at 1 p.m.
