Dear Faculty and Staff:

 

I hope you experienced a wonderful Spring Break. As you may be aware, March 20 was the official first day of Spring. My husband and I spent a few days in Texas last week where the trees and flowers are already in bloom. This is a wonderful time of year.

 Last night our Board of Trustees approved the new tuition and fee schedule which, in addition to helping balance the budget, will provide additional funds needed for technology and the support of student retention and success.  The Board also approved our new Strategic Plan.  I wish to extend my appreciation to Mr. Chad Shepherd and Professor Isaac Ruedin, co-chairs of the Strategic Planning Committee.  They did an excellent job presenting our new plan.

 Yesterday the Cabinet joined me for a lunch to celebrate our newest President’s Award winners, Jean Deimund and Michael Kuelker. According to the nominations received, Jean is tireless in her pursuit to excel and to help the Fine Arts department achieve their goals. She does all this while maintaining a pleasant and professional attitude.  Professor Kuelker represents the best of SCC faculty in his commitment to students and learning.  His leadership over Democracy Days and other events creates opportunities to engage students and the community.  These individuals have certainly demonstrated excellence in the workplace and are truly extraordinary.

Also, thank you to the individuals who took time out of their schedules to join me for the President’s Tea before spring break. It was a pleasure to hear your insight and learn a little more about you.

As an update, the Student Housing groundbreaking and completion dates have been delayed due to the abundance of wet weather we have experienced this winter. The opening of the new student housing is now slated for the end of October or the beginning of November. 

 We are in the final stages of selecting a new Vice President of Student Services. Thanks to the good work of the search committee, chaired by Dr. Bookstaver, the first round of interviews has been completed. We have yet to contact all four finalists, so we are unable to share names at this time. However, we have tentatively identified the following dates/times for a campus forum for each candidate.  I hope you will be able to participate in the forums.  This will allow you the opportunity to provide me your feedback on each candidate.
