Hayley Miller

Success Story

When Hayley Miller returned home in August 2012 after four years of traveling the world as a member of the U.S. Navy, she decided she wanted to go back to school and continue her education.

“The Navy made me grow up,” she said. “It taught me how the real world works, and I’ve come to appreciate everything more now. I don’t take anything for granted.”

Hayley’s mom suggested pursuing an education at SCC, and Hayley ended up enrolling the last day possible.

Because of her background in the Navy, Hayley was able to take advantage of the G.I. Bill, which covered all of her costs for attending SCC.

“I chose SCC, because I heard it’s a great school. I like how helpful and supportive the faculty is at SCC,” said Hayley. “You can tell the professors really want to be there.”

Hayley’s luck continued when she found out there was an open spot on the SCC Women’s Soccer Team.  Having played soccer from the time she could walk through her senior year in high school, this was an opportunity she could not pass up.

“I love soccer. It gives me that same team mentality that I got from the Navy,” said Hayley. “We all work together.”

Hayley admits that things just seemed to fall into place. “One of the girls had just gotten hurt,” she said. “So it was perfect timing to join the team.”

For Hayley, SCC was another step in the right direction. Before joining the Navy, she didn’t take school too seriously. “I was living in the moment, not thinking about the future at all,” she said.

Now, Hayley has a new outlook on life, and SCC helped her grow both as a student and as an athlete. “SCC provided me with an overall positive experience,” said Hayley.
