Starting Compensation: $33,479 to $43,523 per year, commensurate with experience

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (one evening per week (10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). Additional evenings, some Saturdays may be required.

Percentage FTE: 100%

Duties:

St. Charles Community College is seeking a full-time Career Counselor who will provide a wide range of activities supporting Career Services.

Duties:

  • Provides comprehensive career counseling to support the career development of students and non-students including setting career and educational goals and in developing marketable skills.
  • Administers and interprets career tests including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, FOCUS2 Career Planning and the Self Directed Search.
  • Assists students in developing job search strategies and in securing meaningful work through job search coaching, resume writing, mock interviewing and referral to appropriate resources.
  • Develops and implements career development workshops to facilitate the career planning process for students with emphasis on self-assessment, career exploration, internships and job search strategies.
  • Initiates and develops strong relationships among campus partners including faculty, staff and student groups.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with employers and engage them in recruiting activities such as on-campus recruiting, participation in fairs and information sessions.
  • Attends professional meetings, conferences and workshops to maintain professional competence in labor market trends, occupational information and to enhance employer relations.
  • Assists with events and projects including job fairs, etiquette events, graduate survey and Career Exploration Alliance.
  • Advises and counsels students for career-technical and academic programs.
  • Assists in updating various online resources including the Career Services website, the online job board, College Central Network, Career Services Facebook Fan Page and the mySCC portal.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel, human resources or a related field required. Minimum two years of relevant experience in student services, career counseling, human resources or related industry.

  • Excellent listening and oral communication skills.
  • Computer skills and social media experience.
  • Familiar with career tests administration and interpretation.
  • Strong understanding of student development, career development, recruiting and hiring processes and academic counseling.
  • Presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Able to initiate and develop projects both independently and collaboratively.
  • Able to manage and grow relationships with employers to ensure employment opportunities and internships are posted, marketed and available to students.
