Touch Base Tuesday 8-20-19
Dear Faculty and Staff:
Welcome to the first week of classes at SCC and to the first edition of Touch Base Tuesday for FY20.
I am pleased to report that we are off to good start. Our fall enrollment is up 5% as compared to last year.
As a reminder, we budgeted to be down 3%. At this point, we feel fairly certain that we will exceed our projections at Census.
If we continue this upward trend for the spring semester, we will have additional funds available for reallocation.
Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to help our students with registration.
Please allow me to share the following updates:
On Thursday, August 15 we hosted a Faculty Welcome Back event. To kick-off the meeting, participants watched a music video
produced by our talented Online Education folks and our new AV Systems Engineer, Nick Wallace. Here is a link to the video:

As a reminder, this same program will be presented on October 15 for all administrators and staff.
Last Friday the college hosted a Retiree Reception to honor the faculty and staff who retired during the 2018-19 academic year.
Family, friends, and employees were part of the more than 70 individuals who attended the event at Whitmoor Country Club.
Best wishes to all the retirees.
On August 14th, Assistant Professor Sylvia Bane Malta received notification from the Missouri Department of Mental Health
that SCC’s Human Services program has qualified to award the Community Behavior Support Specialist credential to students
who earn their Associate of Applied Science in Human Services. This credential, intended to address the growing need for workers
in the field of behavioral health, qualifies SCC graduates to be hired for the same positions and at the same rate of pay as those with
a more advanced undergraduate degree. Congratulations Sylvia!
Yesterday I was joined by Trustee Cilek for a special lunch meeting with our new Student Government Association (SGA) officers.
Here’s a list of our officers:
Grey Rische - President
Fernanda Pasillas Napoles- Vice President
Sophia Calignaoan - Secretary
Katelyn Montanaro - Treasurer
Rachel Verbeck - Parliamentarian
We have an extraordinary group of student leaders this year!
Thanks to all of you for making the first day of the fall semester a success for our students. I appreciate it!
Best wishes,
Barbara
