Dear Faculty and Staff:

Congratulations to all the students who were recognized at last week’s Student Awards Banquet. We are fortunate to have so many talented students at SCC. I would like to offer my appreciation to Boyd Copeland, Rob Jones, and Rachael Ragsdale for their coordination of this successful event.

The annual Faculty Celebration took place in the SSB Auditorium on May 2. This was a wonderful opportunity to recognize faculty accomplishments. The following full-time faculty were recognized:
• Vicky Herbel received the Emerson Teaching Award
• Marvin Tobias was recognized for having received the Governor’s Award for Teaching Excellence
• Joe Baumann was selected as Faculty of the Year

The faculty members who received promotion to Assistant Professor include Joe Baumann, Cathy Daugherty, Garrett Foster, and Rachel McWhorter-Rush. Faculty receiving Associate Professor status included Charles DeBord, Sylvia Malta, LeeAnn Nelson, and Stacey Thater. The rank of Professor was awarded to Jen Bussen, Aaron Proctor, and Lynne Snyder. Additionally, the following faculty who will be retiring this year were recognized: Cal Chandler, Joe Hartnett, Karen Jones, Michael Kuelker, and Jane O’Donnell. Congratulations to the faculty who were recognized at this successful event. Also, please note that we are planning a special retirement reception during the week of Fall In-Service to honor all AY 2018-19 retirees.

On May 3, SCC hosted the 2019 Job Fair. We had 250 employers participate this year, with more than 360 job seekers in attendance. Thanks to Jenny Hahn Schnipper and others for making this year’s Job Fair such a success.

Let’s wish all of our students the best of luck this week during finals. Please remind them to take advantage of the fun events our Student Activities Department has scheduled to help them get through the week. Your support and encouragement makes a difference.

I look forward to celebrating the end of the semester at the upcoming Faculty and Staff Appreciation luncheon scheduled on May 9 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the SSB auditorium. Stop by for some delicious BBQ and fun with your fellow colleagues.
