Touch Base Tuesday 2-9-21

Dear Faculty and Staff:

tbt2.9.21Please mark your calendars for SCC’s first Men of Color [MOC] Student Success Summit rounding out a month-long series of events, programs and activities in celebration of Black History Month. Friday, Feb. 26, will be the day all are invited to join area high school male students of color for an inspiring, engaging and empowering day of wisdom and practical advice for student success. You will see the day’s schedule of events on the web page, beginning at 9 a.m. Be on the lookout for a link to join the virtual program via email. Excitement is building!

The Curriculum Committee recently approved substantial changes in general education requirements for SCC’s Associate of Applied Science degree and Certificates of Achievement. General education classes required were reduced by 9 credit hours for the AAS and by 12 hours for the CA. This change means that our students may complete their degrees faster in many cases – and get out into the workforce quickly. These reductions support our students’ academic success and College goals related to completion. Thank you to the faculty and staff who took part in the research and recommendation.

tbt2.9.21BThere are a host of (virtual) events scheduled to attend and to encourage participation by our students. This week they include a music-themed Tuesday Trivia Night and tomorrow’s Multicultural Experience Series featuring Spoken Word Poet & Hip-Hop Artist Adan Bean. For details on these and other activities, visit the College’s Events Page.

Have a great week.
