Dear Faculty and Staff:

Touch Base Tuesday_11_2_21_A.jpgI wanted to take this opportunity to recognize SCC’s amazing athletic program. As noted in a recent email from Vice President Leenhouts, our men’s and women’s soccer teams have been very successful. This is the first time in SCC history that both programs reached the Region XVI championship game in the same year. And more exciting is the fact that the men’s team won the Region XVI championship for a second year in a row. Another first is the opportunity for SCC to host a district championship. If our men’s team is successful, they stand a chance to attend the national tournament. I encourage all of you to come out and support our student athletes this Saturday, November 6th at 1:00 p.m. Congratulations to our athletic director, Tim Brix, head coach Tim Mosby, and all our student athletes!

Yesterday, SCC launched the 2021 United Way campaign to help people across the St. Louis region live their best possible lives. As noted in a message from our campaign lead, Betsy Schneider:

The COVID-19 crisis has had a devastating impact on many of our neighbors, and recovery is a long process. Together, we can help our St. Louis community pull out of the effects of this pandemic and move to a brighter tomorrow for all.

Your generous contribution would be greatly appreciated. To donate, please go to the following link:

As you may be aware, SCC’s Pandemic Committee has developed an incentive program to increase awareness related to the importance of vaccinations in protecting against COVID-19. A total of 8 iPads and 24 Amazon gift cards ($150 each) will be given away at two different drawings. I am pleased to announce the winners of the drawing held on October 28:

  • iPads - Shane Madden, Zackary Petot, Carol Martin, and Rebecca Claussen
  • $150 Amazon gift cards – Theresa Flett, Sean Hook, Bryonie Carter, Jason Evans, Victoria Swartzenberg, Brooke Helling, Isaac Ruedin, Don Popham, Kennedy Tipton, Anastasia Bierman, Rosemarie Jones, and Christopher Candice

Congratulations to our winners! Please know, SCC strongly encourages all faculty, staff, and administrators to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Touch Base Tuesday_11_2_21_C.jpgDía de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is an official holiday in Mexico that is recognized October 31-November 2. It is celebration of life and death, a time to show love and respect for deceased family members. According to the History Channel website: On the Day of the Dead, it’s believed that the border between the spirit world and the real-world dissolve. During this brief period, the souls of the dead awaken and return to the living world to feast, drink, dance and play music with their loved ones. For more information about this tradition, please check out the following: https://www.history.com/topics/halloween/day-of-the-dead

International Education Week will be held November 15-18. The Festival & Market will be on Wednesday 17th from 11:00-2:00 in the College Center gym and rotunda.

As a reminder, I will be facilitating two Listening Tours at the following times/locations:
November 3 at the Center for Healthy Living Library from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
November 5 in SSB 1102 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Have a great week!
