Dear Faculty and Staff:

The SCC Foundation held a meeting on October 17 where I had an opportunity to provide an update to our Foundation Board regarding our efforts in Warren County. I shared that one of the first steps in pursuing a ballot initiative involves conducting a poll. I am pleased to report that the Foundation Board unanimously voted to support this initiative. Another agenda item included a presentation by David Cirillo on our assessment efforts and Guided Pathways. The Board appeared very interested in our work in these areas. My sincere thanks to David for his good leadership.

Also on October 17, our Music Department hosted an All Music Seminar featuring Dr. Stella Markou who serves as the Director of Opera Theatre at UMSL. This was a wonderful learning opportunity for our students.

On October 19, I participated in a meeting about a new initiative in St. Charles County called “Community Strong.” This wellness initiative will introduce and advance a blueprint for supporting healthy living throughout the region. Amy Koehler has agreed to represent SCC on the Community Strong committee

I wanted to share one of our marketing outreach promotions through Dia de los Muertos Festival, happening Oct. 26-Nov. 1 at the Missouri History Museum. More than 10,000 people are expected to participate in this four-day event, including high school students from our service area. We are advertising with a bilingual slogan to let the Spanish-speaking community know they are welcome at SCC. See below for our bilingual ad, which will appear in the programs, on social media promotions, and on signage at the event.

Thank you to the October group who joined me for Tea with the President. It was a pleasure getting to hear from each one of these thoughtful individuals!

It’s chili time! Our Third Annual Chuck Wagon Chili Cook-Off is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 30. Once again, the President’s Cabinet invites all competitors to enter the competition and attempt to outwit, out cook, and outlast this mighty team. This year, SCC’s Board of Trustees will be baking and serving desserts for scholarships. Please contact Amber Peterson for more information.

As a reminder, the Visiting Nurses Association and our own SCC student nurses will be providing flu shots to our faculty and staff from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the College Center rotunda. Contact Katy Morris at kmorris@stchas.edu if you have any questions.

Enjoy the rest of the week!
Best wishes,
Barbara
