Dear Faculty and Staff:

I mentioned in the last Touch Base Tuesday that our Men’s Cross Country team is ranked number one in the country.  Our own Edwin Kipainoi, a freshman from Kajiado, Kenya was just named National Athlete of the Week by the NJCAA.  Please join me in congratulating Edwin.  This is a first time recognition for a SCC athlete!

Recently, SCC launched a new diversity campaign, “Be Extraordinary. Be You.” Thanks to the leadership of Martha Kampen (Chief Diversity and Compliance Officer), this campaign is focused on promoting cultural competencies while increasing awareness related to the role that all of us can play in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion at SCC.

My appreciation is extended to Martha and the Marketing Department for their good efforts in developing this communication campaign.

On September 19, SCC hosted the third annual Athletics Meet and Greet.  The SSB Auditorium was filled with student athletes and coaches as we came together to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year.  Thanks to Tim Brix (Athletic Director), for the extraordinary leadership and vision he has brought to SCC’s athletic program.

Our campus committees have been busy planning some great activities for our students.  I hope you’ll check out some of the events going on this week:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 8 – Hispanic Fiesta!  Taking place on the Campus Plaza, the fiesta will feature Folkloric dancers, Latin music, Mexican crafts and FREE Tacos.
  • Thursday, Oct. 10 – PRIDE Day Celebration! A full day of learning, celebrating and supporting LGBTQ+. Sponsored by GSA and BRIDGE

Have a great week.

Barbara
