Dear Faculty and Staff:

At the last President’s Council meeting, the group reviewed nominations for this year’s first President’s Award. It is my honor to introduce the recipients for October:
Amy Veit, faculty member with the Health Information Management Program. Below is an excerpt from the individual submitting her nomination:
Amy went above and beyond assisting a new instructor during the 2020-2021 school year. She assisted me in changing all Medical Assisting classroom activities to online learning as she embraced technology. She was able to provide the necessary direction so I could quickly pivot the coursework while also providing small group lab time.
Nick Wallace, AV Systems Engineer
Nick received two nominations. The following captures a brief summary of comments submitted:
Through transitioning . . . commencement to online in 2020, Nick was instrumental helping with videography, editing and production of the videos. He was instrumental in getting classrooms set-up for hybrid learning. And, with all events on campus, Nick ensures that media needs are never a concern.
It is very rare to find someone who is willing to go above and beyond on a project that was technically mine not his, after all he had his own projects to work on. I am deeply grateful for all of his hard work in helping me to finish this project. It is truly refreshing to find someone like Nick to work with.
Please join me in congratulating Amy and Nick!
On October 8, SCC joined BJC and the St. Charles County Health Department to facilitate the Flu Fighters Flu Shot Clinic in the College Center. The event was a great success with many participants from both the internal and external community. Thanks to everyone who helped with this year’s flu shot clinic.
Last week I was joined by five of our trustees and County Executive Mr. Steve Ehlmann for the Association of Community College Trustee Conference. We were selected to present a session on the following: About Community: Reimagining the Value of Partnerships. Some of the innovative initiatives highlighted in the presentation included our public/private partnership for student housing and child care services, our partnerships with healthcare providers to promote SCC’s Center for Healthy Living, and innovations in culinary and agriculture, including the recent purchase of our Freight Farm.

During the next Board meeting on October 25, Vice President Galbierz will present a recommendation for the trustees to approve the bids for the remodel of the Café/Bookstore for our new science labs and the remodel of the Administration building for Student Services. I am pleased to report that both bids came in under budget and are expected to be completed ahead of schedule. We will also be asking the trustees to pass a resolution on the property purchase in Wentzville. Thanks to Todd and Rich Waligurski for their extraordinary leadership over our bond program.
Please mark your calendars to attend one of two Listening Tour sessions I have scheduled for all employees. This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions or share any feedback you have about the college. The first session is scheduled for November 3 from 3:00-4:00 and the second session will be November 4 during the same time (location to be announced).

Have a great week.
