FAQs

Will classes be in person this spring semester?
To respond to safety concerns and to mitigate the viral spread associated with the recent COVID-19 spike in our service area, St. Charles Community College is adjusting our classroom instruction plans for the start of spring semester 2022.

From January 24 through February 6, lecture-based courses that were previously scheduled as in-person or hybrid for spring are now being moved temporarily to remote (synchronous) learning.

All workforce, healthcare, career and technical education lab, clinical and fieldwork courses, performance/studio-based courses in art, music, and theater; and science courses containing a lab (including lecture portions of classes attached to a lab) will continue to operate in-person.

For information regarding specific classes, students should check CANVAS.
Do I have to be vaccinated to attend in-person classes at SCC?
SCC will not require students, faculty or staff to be vaccinated this spring. However, the College and the CDC strongly recommends all eligible people receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Do I need to wear a mask on campus?

On Monday, Feb. 28, SCC transitioned to a "Masks Welcome" policy. Following the CDC's new guidance based on COVID-19 Community Levels, masks will no longer be required on campus, but we will respect the personal choice of those that continue to wear masks.

The new COVID-19 Community Level guidance, provides levels of Low, Medium, and High based on hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and total number of new COVID-19 cases. St. Charles County, and the surrounding communities, are currently at the medium level.

At the medium level, the CDC suggests the following prevention steps should be taken:

Individuals may choose to wear a mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

SCC will continue to monitor the CDC guidance and the COVID-19 Community Levels for St. Charles County. Policies regarding masks on campus may change if the situation in our community changes. Please visit www.cdc.gov for the most up to date guidance.

Will Plaza Bistro be open this spring?
Yes. The Plaza Bistro, proudly serving Starbucks coffee, will be open during regular hours.
Can I go to the Campus Store this spring?
Yes. The Campus Store will be open during regular hours.
Will I have access to the fitness center, gym or student lounge?
Yes. However, access to these facilities could change. The College will continue following CDC and local health department guidelines and will monitor COVID-19 cases in the area to determine the best course of action.
Will in-person events, such as theatre performances and student events, happen in the spring?
All in-person student events scheduled between January 24 and February 6 have been postponed or cancelled.

Starting February 7, St. Charles Community College will begin offering in-person activities. The College will continue following all guidelines from the CDC and the local health department regarding social distancing and wearing masks. While theatre and music performances will happen in person on campus, seating may be limited. Student events and activities will also be designed with safety in mind.
Will the Assessment Center, Learning Resource Center or ACE Tutoring Center be open this spring?
Yes. All services will be available on campus. The College will continue following all guidelines from the CDC and the local health department regarding social distancing and wearing masks.
What is SCC doing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?
To keep our students, faculty and staff safe, SCC will continue to thoroughly clean campus facilities according to the CDC recommended guidelines. Additionally, hand sanitation stations have been placed around campus. Campus air filtration systems have been upgraded. Plexiglass will remain in place at many student-centric locations on campus.
What if I am sick, test positive or become exposed to COVID-19 even if I'm vaccinated?
All confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19, exposure to COVID-19 positive or suspected positive (symptomatic but awaiting testing) individuals, or persons presenting with symptoms of COVID-19, regardless of masking or vaccination status, should contact the respective contact tracing team for case triage to determine if quarantine away from campus and contact tracing is needed.

Employees can do that here.

Students can do that here.

The College recommends that faculty, staff and students follow current CDC guidelines regarding symptoms and exposure. View the guidelines here.
