Meet Rebekah, scholarship recipient, aspiring music educator

With an interest in music, including voice and piano, Rebekah is planning for a career in music education.

She’s working on an Associate of Fine Arts degree at SCC. She plans to transfer to a four-year university to study music and Spanish.

Rebekah said she is mostly looking forward to teaching choir. She’s looking forward to sharing her passion for music with young people, organizing her own program and enriching other students’ lives.

She and her five siblings all chose to go to SCC, and she said the Foundation scholarship is making a big difference, especially helping with tuition and books. 

“I’m very grateful for the scholarship,” Rebekah said. “Thank you very much. Putting resources toward education is especially meaningful to me because I’m going to become a teacher.”

Rebekah was one of eight artists selected to perform in SCC’s Annual Solo Concert.

SCC’s Annual Solo Concert will be held 7:30-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the auditorium of the Daniel J. Conoyer Social Sciences Building. This concert will showcase brass, percussion, piano, string, voice and woodwind instruments, along with the SCC Orchestra. Performers had to audition and win their spots for this concert. Hosted by SCC’s Music Department, the event is free and open to the public.

SCC Scholarship Applications – due Friday, March 1

More than $190,000 in scholarships will be awarded by the SCC Foundation and the Board of Trustees for students in the 2019-2020 academic year. Only one application is necessary to be applied to all Foundation scholarships and Board of Trustees scholarships. Click here to access the online application.
