Bringing peace and friendship to the world through song

We are following the lead of musically talented alumni, students and community members in our SCC choirs, who sang of peace and friendship in the SCC Winter Choir Concert. We wish the same for you this season.

Performing with the SCC Singers was Katie Bettison, a 2017 SCC grad who, while determining her next steps, is able to continue her love of singing by participating in a choir that is open to college students and the community.

Katie has been singing and playing the piano since she was young, and says music will always be a part of her life. She earned an Associate of Arts degree from SCC earlier this year. When she was a student, she was proud to be a member of the Chamber Choir and Show Choir, both select groups of auditioned students. Now as she considers her next steps for college and career, she continues her love of singing by participating in SCC Singers, a choir open to college students and the community who enjoy singing and sharing their talents with others.

“I love love love singing and I love the people,” Katie said. “Singing makes me happy and is a good way to express myself.”

The Chamber Choir and the SCC Singers performed together earlier this month with conductor, Becky Thorn, and pianist, Jon Garrett, along with guest instrumentalists, to present a spectacular evening of song.  Highlighting a variety of choral literature and musical styles, the choirs focused on a theme of friendship and peace, including an excerpt from the Ralph Vaughan Williams “Dona Nobis Pacem.”

In addition to its degree programs (the Associate of Fine Arts and a music major for the Associate of Arts), SCC offers private music instruction and a number of ensembles and programs, including Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Singers, Chamber Choir, Show Choir, Musical Theater and Opera Workshop Theater.
