Frequently Asked Questions

How much of a time commitment is it to become a participating member of the alliance?
It is only a 2-hour time commitment per experience.
How old are the students I will be working with?
Generally, the students will be junior and senior high school students and college students.
How do you prepare the students before they participate in an experience?
The students meet with a career counselor prior to the experience to discuss appropriate professional dress and etiquette for their visit and sign a participation agreement which outlines program guidelines.
How do I know which experience would be a good fit for me?
Here are detailed overviews of our four experiences: Job Shadowing, Mentoring, Presentations and Externships. You can choose one or all, whatever works for you.
Do you have any best practices or tips for the experiences?
Sure. To ensure your time together is maximized, check out the best practices and tips for job shadowing, mentoring, presentations and externships.
What should I do with a student when they arrive for a job shadowing experience at my office?
Wow them! Show them the exciting and interesting aspects of your industry. Help them understand how your field affects the lives of others.
Can the Career Explorations Alliance present their program to others in my office or my industry?
Absolutely! Contact Dawn Thornton, Program Manager, at dthornton@stchas.edu to schedule a presentation.
How much does it cost to participate in the program?
Zero. There is no cost to participate.
