Tom Kearns enters his sixth season with St. Charles Community College. Kearns continues to build the program-leading the Cougars to the Region XVI Final in 2010, an impressive 12 win season in 2011 (12-5-1), and a Region XVI semifinal appearance in 2012. In 2013 the Cougars reached a new level, winning the program's first MCCAC conference championship and notched a school record 14 wins (14-4-1). The 2013 squad went on to reach the Region XVI final for the second time in four seasons. Coach Kearns was named the MCCAC conference Coach of the Year in 2013. The future is bright and Kearns looks to guide SCC to another successful campaign in their sixth season as a NJCAA sanctioned sport.

Kearns is currently a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and holds a national license from the United States Soccer Federation.

Kearns began coaching in 1991 after graduating from southern Methodist University. He has worked with various soccer clubs throughout his coaching career. Some of the clubs he has worked wih include the Dallas Rockets, Dallas D'feeters, and Legend Soccer Club of Arlington. Tom worked with the North Texas Olympic Development Program for two seasons and recently worked with the Missouri ODP program in 2010 and 2011.

After college, Kearns played two years with the North Texas Men's State team and played semi-pro soccer for Dallas Inter of the Lone Star Soccer Alliance. Kearns played midfield for the LSSA League Championship team.

From 1987 to 1990, Kearns played Division 1 soccer for SMU. He was a four-year letterman and competed in the NCAA playoffs each of his four seasons. The SMU Mustangs reached the Sweet 16 each season and advanced to the Elite Eight in two of those seasons. Each season the Mustangs ranked in the Top 10 of the NCAA Division 1 national rankings. He played under Schellas Hyndmann who is also the former Head Coach of F.C. Dallas of the Major League Soccer (2010 MLS Coach of the Year).

Kearns is originally from the Florissant area and grew up playing for Scott Gallagher Soccer Club. His club team won three state titles, a regional title, and played in the U16 National Finals. His teams were directed by Tom Howe, the current coaching director of Sporting St. Louis. He also attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florissant. Under the direction of legendary high school coach Vince Drake, he led his team to the Missouri State High School Soccer Championship in 1985 (a 3-2 victory over perennial power CBC of St. Louis, MO). As a senior, Kearns was named "Player of the Year" by the Suburban Journal and was named to the First Team All-Metro team by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In the North-South High School All-Star Game, he led the North to a victory by contributing a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory.

Kearns currently resides in Wentzville with his wife, Jennifer, and his two children, Toni and John.

John Crowley

John Crowley enters his sixth year coaching with St. Charles Community College. Coach Crowley will primarily focus on the defensive side of the team. Crowley has substantial experience playing as well as coaching.

Crowley played club soccer and high school soccer with SCC Head Coach Tom Kearns. He played on the Missouri State High School Soccer Championship Team at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1985. After high school, Crowley went on to play JUCO soccer at Florissant Valley Community College. After Flo Valley, John furthered his playing and academic career by attending Missouri Valley College.

John has established himself among the coaching ranks over the past 12 years. His experience has covered CYC, SCCYSA, SLYSA and NJCAA. SCC will utilize his experience to help develop this young program into a nationally ranked team.

Bill Steffen

Men's Volunteer Assistant Soccer Coach

Bill Steffen enters his fifth year coaching with St. Charles Community College.

Steffen has extensive experience as a coach and player. As a player he was a member of the Missouri State High School Soccer Championship Team at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1985. He later won a NJCAA National Championship in 1989 with St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley. Steffen went on to compete in the 1991 national tournament with Sangamon State University.

Steffen has been coaching youth soccer since 1998. He formerly coached with Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, Woodson City Rangers Soccer Club, and Sporting St. Louis.

Joe Boll

Men's Volunteer Assistant Soccer Coach

Joe Boll brings his vast experience to the SCC program. He was instrumental in bringing soccer to the NJCAA level at SCC. Prior to SCC forming a NJCAA soccer program, Boll guided the SCC Soccer teams. He guided the SCC women’s teams for five seasons and the men’s team for two seasons.

Boll also started the men’s and women’s varsity soccer programs at Windsor High school. He coached each program for 12 years. In addition to his high school and collegiate experience, Boll coached club soccer for the Coca Cola Soccer Club for 10 years.

Boll currently holds a FIFA international “B” coaching license.
