First-Time International Student

  1. Start with an International Student Application Packet, and submit an application to the Enrollment Services Department.
    • Take the TOEFL test: (SCC does not accept TOEFL waivers)
      • Minimum score of 173 for computerized version
      • Minimum score of 500 for the written version
      • Minimum of 61 for the Internet version
      • An official score report must be submitted to the Enrollment Services Department
      • To sign up, take a practice test, or for more information, visit TOEFL.org
    • Submit official transcripts from high school and all colleges attended. Transcripts must be translated into English and include:
      • course descriptions
      • final grades
      • explanation of the grading system
    • Submit an Affidavit of Financial Support that certifies adequate funds are available to support you throughout the course of study under normal conditions. The form must be notarized and no older than one year. A certified current bank statement should accompany the Affidavit of Financial Support.
    • Complete the "Conditions of Enrollment" statement – this must be received before an I-20 will be requested.
    • Send all completed forms and documents to:
      St. Charles Community College
      4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive
      Cottleville, MO  63376
  2. Once all documentation and TOEFL scores are received, Enrollment Services prints the I-20 (approval to study at SCC) form and mails it to you in your home country, along with a letter explaining that you must meet with the international student coordinator and take the Academic Skills Assessment.
  3. When you receive the I-20, pay the SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Information System) fee, and make an appointment for an interview with your closest U.S. embassy or consulate. Bring a passport, a receipt showing the SEVIS fee has been paid, and copies of financial documents. The SEVIS fee can be paid at fmjfee.com.
    • After the interview, the embassy may or may not issue the F1 visa.
    • The visa may be issued up to 90 days before school begins, but you're only allowed to arrive 30 days before school begins (i.e., spring semester begins in January – an international student can come into the U.S. no sooner than the December before).
  4. Complete the SCC Academic Skills Assessment prior to enrollment for the first semester. After completing the assessment, an advising appointment with the international student coordinator is required.
  5. Tuition and fees (at the out-of-state rate) are due in full by the payment due date. Nelnet Payment Plan Option is not available to international students or their sponsors.
  6. You must submit copies of your passport F1 visa, and valid Form I-94 (arrival-departure record) when you meet with the international student coordinator. SCC reserves the right to deny admissions to any student with an expired Form I-94.
  7. All F1 students are required to provide proof of health care insurance. SCC does not provide insurance; we will provide names of various providers.
  8. Login to mySCC portal. This is where you'll access student tools like Canvas, CougarMail, Tech Help Desk and SCC Connection (grades, GPA, register for classes, etc.). You can also find campus announcements, news and events in the portal.

  3. As an international student, you're required to submit an Affidavit of Financial Support that certifies adequate funds are available to support you throughout the course of study under normal conditions. The form must be notarized and no older than one year old. A certified current bank statement should accompany the Affidavit of Financial Support.
  4. You must also submit a copy of your passport, F1 visa, and valid Form I-94 (arrival-departure record). SCC reserves the right to deny admissions to any student with an expired Form I-94.
  5. Submit a copy of your current I-20.
  6. All F1 students are required to provide proof of health care insurance. SCC does not provide insurance; we will provide names of various providers.
