Allison Houghton decided to take her education in a different direction after attempting a distance-learning program with another institution.

“I started attending SCC sort of last minute,” she said. “I wanted to wait a semester, but as my brother was enrolling that spring, and we lived out of county, my parents had me enroll that semester.”

During her time at SCC, Allison took advantage of the many experiences the college has to offer. She worked in the ACE Tutoring Center and even studied abroad in Canterbury, England, where she realized she wanted a career that had more traveling opportunities than owning an alternative health practice like the one she originally planned.

“I still loved science, so I decided to consider more options,” she said. “I kept my major as biology and started considering research possibilities.”

After SCC, Allison completed an internship over the summer and transferred to a Truman State University in the fall.

“SCC really affords a great education quite inexpensively, as well as many other opportunities,” she said.
