SCC Workforce Development to co-sponsor community Manufacturing Day

Published: 09/14/2015

Planned activities include tours of the CBP manufacturing plant and the MMTTC training facility, quad copter demos and booths with interactive exhibits from area manufacturers such as General Motors, Independent Tool, King Innovation, SunEdison Semiconductor, True Manufacturing and Zoltek. The community event will take place at 3855 Corporate Centre Dr. in O’Fallon, Mo. The event is open to the public and includes free food, prizes and fun for everyone.

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event held on the first Friday of October. At the local level, it is supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job-seekers and community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.

“We anticipate a shortage of skilled workers as the current manufacturing workforce nears retirement age,” said Amanda Sizemore, St. Charles Community College dean of corporate and community development. “The average age of the current worker today is 56. Between now and 2020, there will be an increasing demand for skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program and operate technology. We need to help students, parents and job-seekers see the opportunities in these career paths.”

Manufacturing Day is co-sponsored by Component Bar Products, Midwest Machine Tool Training Center, St. Charles Community College Workforce Development, City of O’Fallon, O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Center of St. Charles County and Partners for Progress.
