SCC's American Theatre Festival to hold open auditions Sept. 12-13

Published: 08/25/2014

The American Theatre Festival is a series of two performances focusing on history, culture and literary topics, presented by the English, History and Theater departments at SCC.

Auditions for “The Belle Amherst” and “A Women Called Truth” will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, in the auditorium of the Daniel J. Conoyer Social Sciences Building. Interested parties only need to attend one day of auditions.

Callbacks will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14. Participants will be notified if they are invited to callback auditions.

“The Belle of Amherst” delicately explores the life of America’s greatest woman poet, Emily Dickinson, at various stages in her experience from the age of 15, when she was full of hope and success, until shortly before her death. There is one available role – Emily Dickenson.

“A Women Called Truth” chronicles the life of Sojourner Truth, famous abolitionist and women’s rights advocate. There are five available acting roles – three women and two men – along with female chorus members, female and male dancers and one harmonica player.

Performances for both plays will be held Wednesday-Sunday, Oct. 15-19.

Prepared monologues are suggested but not required. Everyone will have an opportunity to do cold readings from the script.
