SCC celebrates success of fifth annual Rhythm and Ribs, raising $47,000

Published: 06/24/2014

“We are so thankful for our friends on campus and in the community who come out year after year to help provide scholarships and academic program enhancements for our students,” said Betsy Schneider, director of development at SCC.

Smash Band performed live on the main stage, preceded by the St. Charles West Jazz Ensemble and a rhythm revue hour featuring performances by “Clockwork,” “A Big Sad Whale” and Matt Wynn. All three groups featured SCC students and/or alumni. Wynn won the college’s own “SCC Idol” competition last fall, and received a scholarship from the SCC Foundation.

Rib vendors included Ethyl’s Smokehouse and Saloon, Mannino’s Market and Stumpy’s House of Bar-B-Que and Catering. Guests also enjoyed chicken from Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and gourmet nachos and veggie burgers by Quintessential Catering. Drinks included Anheuser-Busch products by Krey Distributing, soda by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, lemonade by Red Robin, wine by Terra Firma USA and water by Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles.

“Thank you to everyone who pitched in to promote or support this event.” said Mark Baker, vice president at Warrenton Oil Company.  “There are more people helping us than I can name and I am so proud to be a part of this growing and generous community.”

Baker, along with Eric Henderson, UPS Central Plains District area HR manager, and Scott Lewis, Cottleville city administrator/chief of police, were this year’s Rhythm and Ribs committee co-chairs.

More than 150 volunteers helped out at the event, with 25 from UPS doing set-up.

The five Main Stage sponsors were Ameren Missouri, Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital/Progress West HealthCare Center, Mercy, SSM St. Joseph Health Center/SSM St. Joseph Hospital West and KTRS the Big 550 AM.

“Rock Star” sponsors included Acropolis Investment Management, Commerce Bank, Enterprise Bank and Trust, Fastlane Convenience Stores, General Motors, Krey Distributing, NHC HealthCare & Rehabilitation and UPS. “Ribster” Sponsors are American Eagle Credit Union, First State Bank, Bates CPAs, P.C. and Hochschild, Bloom & Company LLP CPAs.
