Rachel Franck is training for SCC's RUN. LIVE. LEARN.

Published: 04/05/2013

The SCC freshman student ambassador is pursuing a degree in criminal justice, with plans to head to law school.

Although the Troy Buchanan graduate has tuition covered by the A+ Schools Program, she said the chance to win the $1,000 scholarship offered to participants ages 18 and older of this year’s run made her even more excited. The winner of the scholarship drawing can use the funds for books and other fees, in addition to tuition.

This will be Rachel’s first 5K, but the former high school track standout is no stranger to running. Rachel said she broke Troy Buchanan’s 4x400 record twice and competed in sectionals for the 300 M hurdles.

Rachel admitted she hopes she’ll do well in her first 5K. She comes from a family of runners, and enjoys training with her brother, who is the cross country and track coach at Troy Buchanan Middle School. “He’s faster than me, and challenges me,” she said.

Regardless of how she does in the 5K, this SCC student has plenty to look forward to. She already has two summer internships lined up at local law firms.
