SCC vice president hopes enrolling for college is a New Year's resolution

Published: 12/19/2013

SCC currently is enrolling for the spring 2014 semester, admission is open to all students, and students may begin taking classes in January. SCC has a number of offerings for first-time college students, transfer students, returning learners, high school juniors and seniors who want to dual-enroll and high school students graduating in December who want to get an early start on taking college classes.

“Many jobs require a college education and the New Year is a great time to get started on educational goals,” said Chris Breitmeyer, vice president for academic and student affairs.

Breitmeyer offered his top 10 reasons to attend SCC:

  1. Academic excellence: dedicated and experienced faculty and staff are focused on teaching and learning
  2. Quality programs: college transfer programs and career technical programs
  3. Access: open enrollment/admission
  4. Cost: tuition is one-third the cost of nearby universities, and financial aid and scholarship options are available
  5. Small class sizes: average class size is 22
  6. Supportive environment: counseling, advising, tutoring, career services, veterans services
  7. Developmental coursework: classes are available for students who are unprepared or underprepared for college-level work
  8. Graduates are well prepared for the workforce
  9. Student involvement: clubs, activities, athletic, cultural and educational events offer ways to connect with other students
  10. Close to home
