Middle Eastern Dancer Aisha Ali to Host Performance, Workshops Sept. 8-9 at SCC

Ali, who specializes in Egyptian and North African dance and tours internationally, will take part in a performance along with other local dancers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in the auditorium of the Social Sciences Building at SCC. Dinner will be served before the performance at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the dinner and performance are $25 each. Tickets are $8 for the performance only.

Ali will conduct four workshops through the SCC Continuing Education Department, over a two-day period, including:

  • Session 1 – Ghawazee (Upper Egypt): 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 8
  • Session 2 – Egyptian Baladi and the Origins of Raqs Sharqi: 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8
  • Session 3 – Ouled Nile Dances (Algeria) and Shikhat Dances (Morocco): 10 a.m.-noon Sunday, Sept. 9
  • Session 4 – Raqs Shaabi (Tunisia): 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9

Early bird registration is available through Aug. 9 for $45 per session, or $160 for all four. After Aug. 9, prices will increase to $50 per session or $180 for all four. Lunch is available for an extra $9 per day. The workshops will be in Room 203 of the College Center on the SCC campus.
